Writing a north star you can actually picture

“Be healthier” and “grow my career” are directions, not destinations. They give you no way of knowing when you have arrived, and no picture to walk towards.

A stronger north star describes one ordinary day after the dream is real. Where are you at ten in the morning? What is on the table? Who are you talking to?

  1. Start with a place. “A small bench in the corner of the garage.”
  2. Add an action. “Planing a beech board on a Saturday morning.”
  3. Add a detail only you would choose. “With the radio on and coffee going cold.”

Then compress it into one line for your Studio board. Keep the long version somewhere you will read it on a bad week. A picture pulls you forward in a way that a target rarely does.
