Why small milestones keep big dreams alive

Big dreams are easy to postpone. There is always a better month to start, and with nothing to show for your effort, the idea quietly fades.

Small milestones change the shape of the work. Instead of one distant finish line you get many near ones, and each gives you a clear answer to the question “did I make progress this week?”

They also make setbacks smaller. Missing one step in a list of twenty is a pause, not a failure. You can pick up exactly where you left off.

  1. Keep steps short. If one takes more than a week, split it.
  2. Make them checkable. “Book a lesson” is done or not done. “Get better” never is.
  3. Review monthly. Remove what no longer matters and add what you've learned.
